MT-1 (Melanotan 1, also called afamelanotide) is a synthetic 13-amino-acid analog of alpha-melanocyte-stimulating hormone (alpha-MSH) that selectively activates melanocortin-1 (MC1R) and to a lesser extent MC4R receptors. In research it is studied for melanocyte signaling, pigmentation pathway research, and photoprotection model systems. Supplied strictly for Research Use Only.
MT-1 is more selective for the MC1R receptor (the pigmentation pathway). MT-2 activates a broader range of melanocortin receptors including MC4R. The selectivity difference produces different research profiles in published literature studying central versus peripheral melanocortin pathways.
MT-1 is studied in preclinical research on melanocortin receptor signaling, melanin synthesis pathways, photoprotection model systems, and ultraviolet response research. All cited studies are conducted in cellular or rodent systems consistent with RUO classification.

Every batch of MT-1 ships with a third-party COA verifying purity by HPLC (>=99%), identity by mass spectrometry, and lyophilized mass. The batch-specific COA is published on this product page before purchase.
Lyophilized MT-1 is stored at -20C for long-term storage and 2-8C for short-term use within 30 days. Avoid repeated freeze-thaw cycles. Store in original sealed vials, protected from light.
Afamelanotide (MT-1's INN) has narrow clinical approval in some jurisdictions for a specific dermatological condition. The MT-1 supplied here is for laboratory and research use only and is not approved for diagnostic, therapeutic, or human use.
