MOTS-c is a 16-amino-acid mitochondrial-derived peptide (MDP) encoded by mitochondrial DNA in the 12S rRNA region. In research it is studied for AMPK pathway activation, mitochondrial signaling, and metabolic regulation. Supplied strictly for Research Use Only.
MOTS-c is studied in preclinical research on AMPK signaling, skeletal muscle glucose uptake, mitochondrial biogenesis pathway research, and insulin sensitivity model systems. All cited studies are conducted in cellular or rodent systems consistent with RUO classification.
Mitochondrial-derived peptides (MDPs) are short peptides encoded within mitochondrial DNA rather than nuclear DNA. MOTS-c is one of several characterized MDPs (others include humanin, SHLP1-6) and is studied because mitochondrial DNA-encoded signaling represents a distinct biology from canonical nuclear-encoded peptide hormones.
